Jakarta needed a cultural heart. Ali Sadikin, Jakarta’s Governor, envisioned a space for art to flourish. He saw that a metropolitan city needs art. In 1970, his vision materialized. The Lembaga Pendidikan Kesenian Jakarta, or LPKJ, was born within the Taman Ismail Marzuki. This arts center became a hub. It fostered creativity through education and appreciation.
