Established in 1958 the Ghana Nautical College trained ratings for the Black Star Line. It later became the Regional Maritime Academy. Then in 2007 it transformed into the Regional Maritime University RMU. This impressive institution stands proudly in Accra Ghana. It’s a testament to regional cooperation in maritime training. The RMU is a center of excellence. It has trained thousands of personnel for the maritime and allied industries. It’s more than just a university. It’s a vital part of Ghana’s maritime history. The RMU’s roots go back to the Regional Maritime Law of 1982. This law led to the transfer of the college to the Ministerial Conference of West and Central African States on Maritime Transport MINCONMAR. MINCONMAR later became the Maritime Organization of West and Central Africa MOWCA. This marked the beginning of the academy’s regionalization. The RMU wasn’t just a Ghanaian initiative. It was founded by the Republics of Cameroon The Gambia Ghana Liberia and Sierra Leone. The university’s commitment to quality is evident. It achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification in September 2007. The RMU also enjoys a strong affiliation with the University of Ghana. It maintains working relationships with other universities in the sub-region. This collaborative spirit fosters growth and development within the maritime industry. Its commitment to regional cooperation ensures the sustained growth and development of maritime industries across West and Central Africa. Today the Regional Maritime University stands tall as a symbol of this collaboration and commitment to maritime excellence. A beacon of knowledge and opportunity. A testament to the power of shared vision and ambition.
