Ever wondered what it’s like to learn alongside students of different ages? Here at the Reformschule Kassel, that’s the norm. This experimental school, a joint venture of the state of Hesse and the city of Kassel, is an integrated Gesamtschule with a primary level, located in the Bad Wilhelmshöhe district. The Reformschule Kassel even has a “Highly Gifted Support” certification. The school’s learning concept involves teaching students in mixed-age groups. This innovative approach fosters mentorship and collaboration, creating a dynamic learning environment. Children begin their education at the Reformschule Kassel as early as five years old, entering Stufe I which includes grades 0 to 2. Students in grades 3 to 5 learn together in Stufe II, and grades 6 to 8 make up Stufe III. Finally, Stufe IV comprises grades 9 and 10. Beyond the mixed-age classrooms, project-based learning is a major component of the curriculum from Stufe II onward. The foundations for this are laid in Stufe I. Learning development reports replace traditional grade reports until the end of grade 8. This allows for a more holistic assessment of each student’s progress. The Reformschule Kassel values a well-rounded education. They offer a wide range of activities including sports, clubs, theater work, and even a successful chess club that boasts a state champion.
