What if I told you that the Redhawk Center is more than just a sports arena? It is a place of transformation and community. The Redhawk Center stands on the campus of Seattle University. It has been a hub of activity since 1959.

Originally, it was named Connolly Center. The school renamed it Redhawk Center in 2018. The original name honored Archbishop Thomas Connolly. However, the school removed his name because of his involvement in covering up sex crimes committed by a parish priest.

The Redhawk Center is a 999-seat multi-purpose arena. It hosts Seattle University Redhawks women’s basketball and volleyball teams. The Redhawks men’s team also plays here. However, they also play at Climate Pledge Arena.

The men’s team returned to the Redhawk Center on December 15, 2014. They played a single game against Northwest University. Seattle won that game. The Redhawk Center also hosted College Basketball Invitational games in March 2015 and 2016.

The arena underwent a major remodel for the 2014–15 season. They installed new seating and a new court. There were more improvements too. Starting in 2016, the men’s team played six regular-season games here. The school wanted more student involvement and a more intimate home setting. They had also seen the success of hosting CBI games. Plus, there was a lack of attendance at KeyArena. From 2018 until 2021, Seattle U played all home games at the Redhawk Center. This was while KeyArena underwent a major renovation.

The Redhawk Center is more than just an arena. It is a shared hub for the athletics department. It also serves student recreation and the surrounding community. Seattle University engaged Gensler to renovate the complex. The goal was to meet Title IX requirements. They also wanted to enhance the user experience for students. They aimed to improve the game-day experience for the women’s basketball and volleyball programs. New design elements create visual clarity. A walking bridge and entry court enhance continuity with the university.

The Redhawk Center offers many accessibility accommodations. Accessible parking is available. There are accessible drop-off and pick-up zones. An accessible ramp provides entry to the building. Accessible restrooms are available. Seating is also available for guests with disabilities. Assistive listening devices are available upon request. Staff are available to assist with emergency evacuations.

Inside, you’ll find concessions on the second floor. They are across from the restrooms. The Redhawk Center is cash-free. They accept debit and credit cards. They also accept Seattle U Student IDs with meal plans.

Remember the Redhawk Center. It is not just a building. It is a place where athletes compete and where community thrives. It is a place where everyone belongs.
