Picture this imposing building in front of you. It’s Redbridge Town Hall, a grand landmark on the vibrant High Road in Ilford. This magnificent building, with its Renaissance style architecture, is a testament to the rich history of this borough. The foundation stone was laid in 1900, and it was opened in 1901 as Ilford Town Hall. It served as the headquarters for the local council, and was eventually used as the site for many important events, like the ceremony in 1926 where Ilford was granted the status of a Municipal Borough. Redbridge Town Hall has a lot of history, and its importance continues to be felt today, as the Council of the London Borough of Redbridge still meets here. Look closely at the grand entrance and you will see the Ionic order columns, a design element that is characteristic of the Renaissance period. This beautiful building is a reminder of the architectural brilliance of the past and continues to be a focal point for the community today.
