Rathaus Weixdorf

Nestled in the northern outskirts of Dresden, the Rathaus Weixdorf stands as a silent witness to the passage of time. By 1917, they had moved their offices to Königsbrücker Straße 77. The need for a proper town hall, a Rathaus, became increasingly apparent. Finally, in 1923, Mayor Albert Ernst proposed the construction of a new Rathaus. The architects Siegfried Koritzki and Willi Metzler were tasked with creating designs. After much deliberation, Metzler’s design was chosen in 1927. Construction began swiftly, with the cornerstone laid in July and the Richtfest, the traditional topping-out ceremony, celebrated in August of the same year. The Rathaus Weixdorf officially opened its doors on April 4, 1928, initially as Rathaus Lausa. Its name changed to Rathaus Weixdorf in 1938, reflecting the community’s name change. The ground floor housed the community treasury, the savings bank, the registry office, and even a police station. Upstairs, the council chamber, designed in the then-fashionable Art Deco style, provided a sophisticated setting for local governance.
