Poteet High School opened its doors in 1986, the fourth high school in the Mesquite Independent School District. The school was named after Dr. Ralph H. Poteet, a man who dedicated his life to education. He served as the district’s superintendent from 1964 to 1986. The school’s mascot, Patch the Pirate, embodies the spirit of adventure and perseverance that Ralph H. Poteet High School instills in its students. The school colors, green and white, represent growth and unity. From the beginning, Ralph H. Poteet High School has been a place where students are encouraged to explore their passions and strive for excellence. The school has a rich history of academic and extracurricular achievements, particularly in its renowned band program. The Poteet Pirate Band is a source of immense pride. They’ve consistently reached the state finals since 1993 and clinched the AAAA UIL State Marching Band title three times. But their accolades don’t stop there. In 2008, the Poteet Honors Band received the highest honor a concert band can achieve in Texas: the TMEA Class 4A Honor Band title. Ralph H. Poteet High School is more than just a school.
