Did you know that the vibrant history of Scouting in Lebanon began right here in Beirut? This very area you stand in has witnessed the unfolding of a remarkable story. Quartier Scout isn’t just a name; it’s a testament to a legacy that spans over a century.

Imagine a time when the Ottoman Empire still cast its shadow over the land. In 1912 long before Lebanon’s independence a remarkable man named Mohammad Abdul Jabbar Khairy established the first Scout troop. He brought Scouting to Lebanon and the Arab world. This wasn’t some random decision. Khairy a Lebanese man educated in Britain was inspired by the British Scout movement. He returned home filled with the passion to build a similar movement here. With the support of the Dar El O’loum School his vision took root.

The early days were filled with challenges. World War I disrupted the fledgling movement. Mohammad Omar Mneimneh took the reins during Khairy’s absence bravely keeping the spirit of Scouting alive. But the war caused a temporary halt. After the war Mohammad Said Abdullah Dabbouss and other dedicated individuals revived the movement. They renamed it The Syrian Scout.

In 1920 a pivotal moment arrived. The first constitution was adopted. The name changed to the Muslim Scout Association reflecting its broader appeal while retaining its focus on Islamic values. This association became a guardian of morality and ideals nurturing young people to be upright and responsible citizens.

The Scout movement in Lebanon wasn’t immune to the trials of its nation. The Lebanese Civil War tested the Scouts resolve. Yet amidst the conflict they remained united. They provided vital aid to civilians offering support where it was most needed. This showed an inspiring example of unity and resilience.

Quartier Scout stands as a living symbol of that enduring legacy. It reflects years of dedication service and unity. It speaks of a movement that has shaped generations. It’s a reminder that even amidst turmoil hope and perseverance prevail. The Scouts’ impact on Lebanon’s history is undeniable. Their contributions extend beyond their camps and programs. They have helped build a stronger more unified nation. Today Quartier Scout is a place to honor that history. It’s a reminder of the power of a common purpose to unite people.
