Did you know that Quai Marcel Boyer in Ivry-sur-Seine wasn’t always called that? Once known simply as Quai d’Ivry, this stretch along the Seine has seen its share of history.
Today we explore the Quai Marcel Boyer. It is located in Ivry-sur-Seine, in the Val-de-Marne area. This location marks the point where the D19 road follows its path.
Let’s talk about Marcel Boyer. Born in 1904, he lived on Rue Parmentier in Ivry-sur-Seine. Marcel was a lieutenant in the International Brigades. His life took a tragic turn when he was arrested on August 6, 1940. He faced imprisonment in several locations including La Santé, Clairvaux, and Gaillon. Marcel was then interned at the camp de Compiègne. He was deported to Auschwitz on July 6, 1942. Sadly, he died there on August 14, 1942.
The Quai Marcel Boyer got its current name after the Liberation. This was to honor Marcel Boyer. Before this change, the name Quai d’Ivry stretched along the Seine all the way to the Pont d’Ivry.
Even during World War I, this area was a target. A raid hit numbers 62 and 69 of the Quai Marcel Boyer.
For a long time, the Quai Marcel Boyer was mainly an industrial area. Now, it is undergoing significant renovations. New buildings and businesses are popping up, marking a new chapter for this area. The Quai Marcel Boyer now extends the Paris Rive Gauche district, also known as the François-Mitterrand Library area.
The headquarters of E.Leclerc is located here in the architectural complex Le Partitio. Jean-Michel Wilmotte designed it. This building is next to the Seine. It features a public parvis and two interior courtyards. The complex is bordered by Rue Victor-Hugo to the south and Rue François-Mitterrand to the west.
The headquarters of the Fnac are also located on the Quai Marcel Boyer.
Also located here is the Port of Ivry-sur-Seine. This is the oldest port managed by Ports de Paris. It was inaugurated in 1899. The port stretches to the Quai Auguste-Deshaies.
