Did the very ground beneath Pura Dalem Solo tremble? Legend says it did. The earth quaked, but strangely, only within the temple’s walls. This dramatic event, occurring during a festival at Pura Dalem Solo, forever changed its name. A visitor, entranced in a spiritual fervor, became possessed. They proclaimed the arrival of Ratu Dalem Solo, a powerful spiritual entity. From that day forward, the temple, once known as Pura Kauh, and later Pura Dalem Majapahit, became Pura Dalem Solo. This isn’t merely a temple of worship. The locals believe Pura Dalem Solo holds a mystical connection to Indonesia’s political landscape. In 1964, during another trance, a warning emerged. Abandon the “red party,” the possessed individual urged. The villagers, skeptical, dismissed the prophecy. Shortly after, the Indonesian Communist Party, symbolized by the color red, was overthrown in a violent coup. A similar incident occurred in 1971 at Pura Dalem Solo. A prophecy foretold a “Yellow King,” who would reign for an extended period. This prediction seemingly materialized with the rise of Soeharto and his Golkar party, whose symbol was yellow. Pura Dalem Solo is more than just a place of prophecy. It’s a place of healing. People come seeking solace and relief from ailments. Even high-ranking officials visit, praying for continued power and success. And for the villagers of Sedang, Pura Dalem Solo offers a unique tradition. During tooth-filing ceremonies, a vital rite of passage, they simply request holy water from the temple, eliminating the need for a traditional healer. The temple’s history stretches back further than even the local village pura, believed to be a relic of Ratu Dalem Solo, who arrived during a time of plague. Within Pura Dalem Solo’s sacred grounds, three artifacts have been designated as cultural heritage items. These include a small stone statue, a naga-headed fountain, and an ornate Prasada. These relics, described in the Lontar Tattwa Catur Bhumi, link the temple to the 14th century and solidify its place as a vital part of Bali’s rich cultural heritage.
