“Four thousand West.” That’s Pulaski Road for you, a major artery cutting right through the heart of Chicago, named after Casimir Pulaski. Pulaski Road is steeped in history. It wasn’t always called Pulaski. Back in 1913, they tried to rename it Crawford Avenue after some local landowner. Thank goodness that didn’t last! In 1935, it finally became Pulaski Road, a testament to the Polish spirit of this city! It’s that same spirit that led to a young Casimir Pulaski leaving Poland to fight in the American Revolutionary War. Pulaski earned the title “Father of the American Cavalry” fighting for a nation that wasn’t even his own. Sadly, he died young from wounds sustained in battle. But here in Chicago, his memory lives on!
