Opened in 2006, Pritzker College Prep stands as a beacon of educational opportunity in Chicago’s Hermosa neighborhood. This public charter high school, part of the Noble Network of Charter Schools, isn’t just a building. It’s a living testament to the belief that education can transform lives. Pritzker College Prep serves nearly 1,000 students, grades nine through twelve. The school is named after generous donors Penny Pritzker and Bryan Traubert. They saw the potential in this community and invested in its future. Originally, this building housed St. Philomena Elementary School, a familiar landmark for long-time residents. Pritzker College Prep has forged valuable partnerships. Since 2008, they’ve collaborated with Phillips Exeter Academy, focusing on teacher training and the Harkness method of instruction. This method encourages student-centered discussion and critical thinking. Another unique partnership is with the Pushkin Summer Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Since 2012, rising seniors have had the opportunity to immerse themselves in intensive Russian language studies. Some even travel to Eastern Europe after graduation through the National Security Language Initiative for Youth. Imagine Pritzker College Prep students exploring new cultures and broadening their horizons. They’re not just learning a language, they’re experiencing the world. And for high-achieving sophomores, the Summer of a Lifetime program, in partnership with the Right Angle Foundation, opens doors to college summer programs across the country. Pritzker College Prep doesn’t just focus on academics. They also have a vibrant arts scene. The school’s Jazz band has graced stages from Berklee College of Music to the Chicago Jazz Festival. In 2010, a grant from Fidelity provided brand new instruments. Teacher Ben Das was even a finalist for the TNTP Fishman Prize in 2015. The student-run newspaper, The Pritzker Press, consistently earns awards in state journalism competitions. Pritzker College Prep also boasts a thriving athletic program with over 15 sports. The Jaguars have claimed numerous championships in football, soccer, and cheerleading. From the classroom to the field, Pritzker College Prep empowers its students to strive for excellence.
