“Prior Velho? More like Prior Forgotten, am I right?” chuckled a voice. Prior Velho. A name whispered more than proclaimed, often lost in the shadow of its larger neighbor, Sacavém. But don’t let that fool you. Prior Velho holds a history as rich and layered as any in Lisbon. Once a separate parish, it merged with Sacavém in 2013 to form a new entity. Despite this, the spirit of Prior Velho perseveres. Here, amidst the modern developments, you can still feel the echoes of a time when life moved at a slower pace, a time before the union. Close your eyes and imagine. The air is filled with the scent of freshly baked bread from the local padarias. Old men play cards in the shade, their laughter echoing through the narrow streets. Prior Velho may no longer stand alone on the map, but its heart beats on, a testament to the enduring power of community and history.
