In 1889, a new gateway to the coastal charms of Cascais opened in Lisbon. This was the Antiga Estação Ferroviária de Pedrouços. It served as the temporary terminus of the Cascais Line. Imagine the excitement on that September day as the first train chugged into Antiga Estação Ferroviária de Pedrouços. It marked a new era of travel, connecting Lisbon to the seaside resort town. The Antiga Estação Ferroviária de Pedrouços wasn’t just a station. It was a symbol of progress. It was a stepping stone to the breezy beaches and vibrant culture of Cascais. This initial phase lasted until December 6, 1890. Then the line extended to Alcântara-Mar. Antiga Estação Ferroviária de Pedrouços’s time as the terminus was over. The station eventually closed. It was replaced by the Pedrouços Halt, which itself was later removed in 2010. But the memory of the Antiga Estação Ferroviária de Pedrouços remains. It stands as a testament to the early days of the Cascais Line and the development of coastal travel in Portugal.
