Were the walls of Priestfield Parish Church able to speak, what tales they could tell? Right before you stands Priestfield Parish Church. It has witnessed the changing landscape of Edinburgh since its completion in 1880. Originally known as Rosehall United Presbyterian Church, it was founded by members of Newington United Presbyterian church. The church’s Italianate design, a creation of architects James Sutherland and James Campbell Walker, is hard to miss. Those twin square campanile towers are not a common sight, are they? They stand as sentinels, each guarding an entrance portal facing onto Dalkeith Road. Look closely and you’ll notice the rose stained glass windows, a distinctive feature of this architectural gem. Over the years, this church has seen it all – from its time as a United Free Church in 1900 to its merging with Prestonfield Church in 1975, finally becoming Priestfield Parish Church as we know it today. It stands as a testament to the evolving religious landscape of Edinburgh, a silent storyteller whispering tales of faith, transformation and community.
