“The inscription on this temple is quite special,” the guide said, pointing to the Prasat Kok Kreus. “It mentions a king’s success in building a grand temple with a giant linga.” Prasat Kok Kreus, a rectangular brick temple, stands proudly at the highest point of the Koh Ker archaeological site. Unlike many other temples in the area, this one isn’t dedicated solely to Shiva. Prasat Kok Kreus acknowledges a multitude of deities. The inscription, K.675, carved meticulously onto its sandstone doorframe, names Shiva, Ganga, Vishnu, Braham, and Uma. It even mentions Bharati and Kambu, revered as the ancestors of the Khmer people. This inscription isn’t just a list of names. It tells a story. It links the sacred water flowing from this temple to the Rahal, the grand reservoir, after being sanctified by these powerful deities.
