In 1999, a seed of faith was planted in Siem Reap. This seed was the Kantrok Adventist School, initially a humble literacy program for underprivileged children. Now, as we stand before the Kantrok Adventist School, imagine those early days. Picture a small group of students eager to learn, their faces lit with hope. The school, established by Tim and Wendy Maddocks of SALT Ministries, began its journey with a simple yet powerful mission: to provide quality education rooted in Christian values. In 2004, the Cambodian government officially recognized Kantrok Adventist School as a primary school. This recognition was a milestone. It solidified the school’s place in the community. The school blossomed, expanding to offer classes from kindergarten to grade 9. The Kantrok Adventist School isn’t just about academics. It provides a holistic education. Students delve into the Cambodian government’s Khmer language curriculum and an English curriculum. They also study the Bible, exploring their faith and values. For older students, there are opportunities to learn practical skills. They can explore art, technical studies, and computing. Today, Kantrok Adventist School stands as a beacon of hope for over 300 students. About half of the student body are children from surrounding villages, while a significant portion are from the Wat Preah Yesu Children’s Home, with a smaller number of boarding students. The school relies on the dedication of volunteer staff and the generosity of donors. They work tirelessly to ensure the school continues to thrive. As you look at Kantrok Adventist School, remember the seed of faith planted years ago. It has grown into a vibrant testament to the power of education and community.
