Think of a phoenix rising. That’s Postbyen in Copenhagen. It’s emerging where the old postal terminal once stood. This area sat next to Copenhagen Central Station. Now, it’s transforming into a vibrant new district. Postbyen is full of urban life. It’s a mix of businesses and residences.

Postbyen sits on historic ground. Since 1912, this area was central to Denmark’s postal service. That’s where the name Postbyen comes from. Copenhagen’s Postcenter was in the old terminal. It sat between Bernstorffsgade, Carsten Niebuhrs Gade, and the railway.

Imagine five towers. They rise from 25 to 115 meters. These towers stand above a four-story base. This base connects the whole area. It holds technical equipment, storage, and parking for bikes and cars.

Each of the five towers in Postbyen has a specific purpose. One tower holds 7,800 square meters of youth housing. Two towers have 160 apartments. The remaining two towers contain 234 hotel apartments.

But Postbyen is more than just towers. It includes Danske Bank’s new headquarters. That’s almost 70,000 square meters. There’s also “The Stamp,” an office building for 2,000 workers. Villa Copenhagen offers hotel and conference facilities for 1,200 people. You’ll also find 7,800 square meters of public housing. Two smaller office buildings add another 12,000 square meters. “The Health Club” provides health services.

Postbyen aims to be car-free. Green paths and squares will make it feel like an oasis. This oasis is in the busy capital. Cars and bikes park in a large underground garage. It has 800 public parking spaces. There is space for 5,500 bikes and 1,000 cars. About 6,000 people will work in Postbyen’s round buildings every day.

The buildings in Postbyen are being certified. They meet DGNB standards. These are Gold, Silver, and Platinum Diamond & Heart. They also meet LEED Gold standards. DGNB certification promotes sustainable practices.

The construction of Postbyen happens in three stages. The first stage, from 2015 to 2023, included excavation. It also included foundation work. This stage completed Danske Bank’s headquarters. The second stage, from 2020 to 2025, built “The Stamp,” apartments, and hotel apartments. This stage finished the office building, towers, and landscaping. The final stage started in 2025. It is expected to end in 2028. It involves building homes, businesses, and public housing. The entire area should be complete in 2028.

A vibrant, green urban landscape runs through Postbyen. Pedestrians and cyclists can easily move through the area. They can enjoy a city park and recreational spaces. A track promenade will stretch from Tietgens Broen. It will go along Postbyen’s railway area. It will extend towards the new IKEA and Dybbøls Bro.

Two circular buildings are part of the final stage. One is a 15-story residential tower. This tower will have 200 youth housing units. The ground floor will be a large common area. It can be divided into different zones. These include an eating area, lounges, and more. The top two floors will have four exclusive family apartments. These apartments will have access to a roof garden. They also have panoramic city views.

In Postbyen, modern life blends with green spaces. It is a place where people can live, work, and relax. As Postbyen continues to grow, it will be a key part of Copenhagen.
