“Small seeds” is what Poneloya means in the indigenous language. Imagine those tiny seeds carried by the wind. They landed here on this coast and grew into this vibrant town.

Poneloya sits on Nicaragua’s west coast. It borders the Pacific Ocean and Las Peñitas. We are about 21 kilometers from the city of León. For years Poneloya has been a favorite vacation spot. Wealthy Nicaraguans built their homes here. The local residents of Poneloya are mostly fishermen. Some are caretakers. Others commute to León for work.

Poneloya offers beaches stretching for kilometers. The waters here are clear and blue. You can sunbathe, swim, and enjoy water sports. Surfing and fishing are very popular activities. The town itself is small. It has colorful houses and local restaurants. Beachfront accommodations are also available. Poneloya is known for its fresh seafood. Try the ceviche or grilled fish.
