Screaming through the twisted metal labyrinth of Poltergeist, you’re launched into a world of pure adrenaline. Poltergeist at Six Flags Fiesta Texas isn’t your average roller coaster. Opened in 1999, this steel beast, designed by Werner Stengel and built by Premier Rides, replaced a tranquil mini-golf course. Imagine that transformation! Poltergeist stands tall in Rockville, a chaotic symphony of green and grey steel, a testament to a 2021 refurbishment that breathed new life into the ride. The coaster’s history is as twisted as its tracks. Originally, Poltergeist featured over-the-shoulder restraints. However, after numerous complaints of rider discomfort, they were replaced in 2002 with more traditional lap bars. This change significantly improved the ride experience, making it more enjoyable for thrill-seekers. As you board Poltergeist, anticipation hangs heavy in the air. The Linear Induction Motor (LIM) launch catapults you from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.5 seconds. No slow climb up a hill here. You’re thrust into a “spaghetti bowl” of track, a chaotic mix of cobra rolls, sidewinders, corkscrews, and twists and turns. This relentless onslaught of inversions leaves you breathless and disoriented. Unlike some similar coasters, Poltergeist doesn’t offer a mid-course brake run. The relentless speed and twists continue until the final brake run, leaving you exhilarated and wanting more. Poltergeist shares similarities with other LIM-launched coasters like Joker’s Jinx and Flight of Fear. But the outdoor setting and the unique layout of Poltergeist set it apart. As you step off the ride, slightly wobbly but exhilarated, you can’t help but marvel at this engineering marvel. Poltergeist, a whirlwind of steel and speed, a true testament to the thrill of the chase.
