Nestled along Archer Avenue, the Polish Highlanders Alliance of North America stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Goral community. The Polish Highlanders Alliance, often referred to as the ZPPA, was founded in Chicago in 1929. This organization serves as a central hub, uniting numerous Goral circles, clubs, and associations across the United States. The Polish Highlanders Alliance building itself, affectionately known as “Dom Podhalan” or the “Highlander Home”, is a striking landmark. It’s designed in the traditional Zakopane Style of Architecture, reminiscent of a Carpathian chalet. The Polish Highlanders Alliance has a rich history of preserving and celebrating Goral culture. The organization publishes a newspaper called “Podhalanin”. They also produce radio programs like “Gawędy”, “Poezja i muzyka góralska”, and “Na góralską nutę” which are broadcast on WPNA 1490 AM. Even the local Polish Daily News, Dziennik Związkowy, features a dedicated section called “Kronika podhalańska”, or “The Highlander Chronicle”, further showcasing the vibrant presence of this community. The Polish Highlanders Alliance is more than just a building. It’s a living embodiment of Goral heritage, a place where traditions are kept alive and celebrated. It’s a testament to the strong bonds within the community and their dedication to preserving their unique cultural identity in their adopted homeland.
