Craving a trip through Spain without leaving Mallorca? Then Poble Espanyol is just right. Inaugurated in 1967, Poble Espanyol is more than just a tourist attraction. It is an open-air architectural museum.

Imagine yourself transported to a medieval walled city. Poble Espanyol was built between 1965 and 1968. The renowned Spanish architect Fernando Chueca Goitia directed the construction. He is known for the Almudena Cathedral in Madrid and the expansion of the Museo del Prado.

The goal was to give visitors an immersive experience of Spain’s architectural heritage. This spans across 24000 square meters. The venue showcases diverse architectural styles. Spot Arabic, Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance influences.

Over 2000 people helped build this complex. It features 72 structures representing Spanish architecture. There are 18 blocks of buildings. Fifteen streets and 12 squares add to the experience. Everything was built to scale. Materials came from the represented regions.

Poble Espanyol holds a special distinction. It is the third-largest replica of its kind worldwide. It is the only one specifically built as a tourist attraction.

Barcelona built one replica in 1929 for the Universal Exhibition. Belgium built another in 1958 for the Brussels Universal Exhibition. These served different purposes.

Shortly after Poble Espanyol opened, the Palace of Congresses in Palma was inaugurated. Its neoclassical style makes it a popular venue for events.

Today, Poble Espanyol functions as an open-air architectural museum. It also displays popular crafts. It hosts congresses, meetings, conventions and exhibitions.

Notably, Poble Espanyol is accessible to people with reduced mobility. There is parking reserved for them. The toilet is suitable for PRM. Access is possible without changes in floor level. The door width is greater than or equal to 78 cm.

Take a stroll through the Poble Espanyol. Discover the charm and diversity of Spanish architecture. It is a unique cultural experience in Palma de Mallorca.
