A beacon of faith shines on South Normal Avenue. Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church stands as a testament to the enduring power of belief. Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church began its journey in 1963. A small group of believers from Centerfork Missionary Baptist Church, led by the generous spirit of Brother Clifford Mann, laid the foundation for what would become a cornerstone of the community. The land on which Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church now stands was a gift from Brother Mann. The original structure, a modest 36 x 60-foot building with a basement, first opened its doors for services in the spring of 1964. The church’s name, Pleasant Hill Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, was chosen by the founding members. In 2003, the congregation voted to expand. Nearly 10,000 square feet were added to the original building. This expansion included a larger fellowship hall, new classrooms, a gymnasium, and a new sanctuary. Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church’s mission echoes the teachings of Jesus: to make disciples of all nations. They strive to create a community of authentic believers. Their vision is to see lives transformed by the gospel. They want people to come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church is more than just a building.
