A simple glass urn. It holds a replica of the Virgin of Lujan. This is Plazoleta Ntra Sra de Lujan de los Patriotas. It sits in a triangular plaza. The plaza is where Avenida Emilio Castro meets Acassuso and Carhue streets. It’s right in front of the Nuestra Señora de Luján de los Patriotas parish.

This small plaza is more than just a pretty spot. It holds a significant piece of Argentine history. The Virgin of Lujan is the patron saint of Argentina. Her image is deeply revered. The small replica here in the plaza is a powerful symbol. It represents faith and national pride.

The parish church itself has a rich history. It began as a simple chapel. It was dedicated to Saint Teresa of the Child Jesus. This chapel was in a converted garage. Father Emilio Ezquerra served as its chaplain. He was known for his cheerful nature and his cane. He’d often be accompanied by young people. They walked the three blocks to the chapel together.

The current church was built later. It took years of effort and community involvement. Many people contributed. They gave both financially and with their labor. The church was finally completed in 1948. Cardinal Copello blessed it. He was the Archbishop of Buenos Aires at the time. The church’s construction coincided with the growth of the Barrio Nación. This neighborhood was developed after land donations. The donations were made by a wealthy widow.

The church’s name is meaningful. ‘Nuestra Señora de Luján de los Patriotas’ translates to ‘Our Lady of Luján of the Patriots’. This honors a significant historical connection. During the British invasions of 1806. Juan Martín de Pueyrredón gathered gauchos in Luján. They fought for the reconquest of Buenos Aires. They carried a 38 cm ribbon. The ribbon’s colors matched the Virgin’s image. This detail is a striking coincidence. The original image of the Virgin is only 38 cm tall. This event links the Virgin to the patriots of Argentina. This story adds another layer to the significance of this plaza.

On May 20 1990 a replica of the Virgin was placed here. Cardinal Aramburu blessed it. Gauchos on horseback attended the ceremony. School children were there too. This plaza is a place of quiet contemplation. People stop here to pray. It serves as a visible reminder of faith and the nation’s history. Take a moment to reflect. Feel the spiritual energy of Plazoleta Ntra Sra de Lujan de los Patriotas.
