“Ever heard a tango whisper secrets of the past?” That’s what Plazoleta Francisco Di Caro does. It is more than a green space. It’s a tribute to a tango legend. This small park remembers Francisco De Caro. He was a pianist and composer.

Francisco de Caro was born in Buenos Aires in 1898. He died there in 1976. He lived a life dedicated to tango. De Caro is known as a key figure in tango romanza. His music had a romantic and French-influenced style.

Imagine young Francisco. He grew up in a musical family. His parents were Italian immigrants. His father taught music. His mother sang. The De Caro family had twelve children. Francisco’s brother Julio also became a famous musician.

Initially, Francisco studied violin. Julio studied piano. But they switched instruments. Francisco found his passion in piano. He later studied at the prestigious Williams Conservatory. But his heart belonged to tango.

Francisco began playing tango secretly. His father disapproved of popular music. He joined a quartet playing at El Parque café. Eventually, he left home to pursue his tango dreams.

He moved to Montevideo. There he played piano in cinemas and cabarets. His brother Julio joined him later. They even played together in Minotto Di Cicco’s orchestra. This marked their first professional collaboration.

Together, the De Caro brothers created tango magic. They composed many tangos together. “Mala Pinta” and others became hits. These collaborations improved their financial situation and artistic output.

Later, Francisco and Julio returned to Buenos Aires. Francisco reconciled with his father. He joined a quartet at the Marzotto café. This cemented his place in the Buenos Aires music scene.

In 1923, Francisco formed a group for high-society parties. Julio joined him. Their performances became very successful. Their elegant style helped tango gain acceptance. They wore tuxedos. They showed impeccable manners.

Francisco continued to work with Julio. They toured. They recorded music. They appeared on the radio. In 1937, Francisco appeared in the film “Así es el tango.”

Francisco retired from performing in 1955. He passed away in 1976. He was buried next to his brother Julio in Chacarita Cemetery.

Now, Plazoleta Francisco Di Caro honors his legacy. The Plazoleta is located at San Martin Avenue. It sits between Gutenberg and Salvador M. del Carril Avenue. It is a place for reflection. It is a place to remember Francisco De Caro’s contributions. His music lives on. His influence remains strong in tango history. As you leave, remember the echoes of tango. Think of Francisco De Caro’s passion. Let his music inspire you.
