Agulo is known as the “bombón de La Gomera”. The Playita del Pescante de Agulo has seen the small municipality transform. Agulo is the smallest municipality on the island. It covers just 25.39 square kilometers.

Imagine fishermen hauling their daily catch onto this very shore. The Playita del Pescante de Agulo once bustled with activity. It was a hub for local commerce and community life.

Agulo is located on the north coast of La Gomera. Its history dates back to September 27 1607. Colonists mainly from Tenerife founded it. The initial settlement faced challenges. The owners abandoned the land given for cultivation after a few years. A definitive settlement began in 1620.

Before 1739 the area fell under Hermigua’s jurisdiction. In 1739 the Town Hall was established. The parish of San Marcos was created at the same time. By 1768 the town had 625 inhabitants.

Agulo experienced an economic boom in the early 20th century. This was thanks to banana cultivation. This growth reshaped Agulo and its coastal area including the Playita del Pescante de Agulo.

Over time Agulo evolved. It moved from a fishing village to a charming tourist destination.

Today the Playita del Pescante de Agulo is a place for relaxation and reflection. The whitewashed houses gleam in the sunlight. Cobbled streets offer picturesque views. The sea stretches out before you. From here you can admire exquisite sea views.

Agulo is divided into two distinct areas. The lower area includes the Lepe neighborhood. The upper area features hamlets like Las Rosas La Palmita Meriga and Cruz de Tierno.

The town center includes El Charco Las Casas and La Montañeta. It showcases typical local architecture. The Church of San Marcos and the Plaza de Leoncio Bento are worth a visit. The landscapes surrounding Agulo are stunning.

Agulo celebrates several festivities throughout the year. These include Santa Rosa de Lima in August. Nuestra Señora de la Merced is celebrated at the end of September. The feast of San Marcos Evangelista takes place in April. San Isidro Labrador is honored in May. These events reflect the town’s vibrant culture.
