Ever wondered what it felt like to step back in time while enjoying a modern beach vacation? Then you are at Playa del Castillo.

Welcome to Playa del Castillo. This golden sand beach has a rich history. It is also known as El Castillo Beach. Playa del Castillo is located in Caleta de Fuste on Fuerteventura’s east coast. The beach is shaped like a horseshoe. This shape ensures calm waters. The shallow waters are perfect for families. A beautiful promenade borders the beach. It offers many amenities. These include a sports area and a children’s park. There are also many restaurants.

But let us dive into its past. The name “Castillo” comes from a tower built around 1740. This tower was a defense against pirates. Today, the tower is part of an apartment resort. Pirates often landed here. They terrorized the locals. In 1740, British pirates destroyed Tuineje. As a result, two towers were built. One was here and the other at El Cotillo. These towers replaced older structures from the 15th century.

The Castillo de Fuste was completed around 1743. In 1823, it became a prison for revolting peasants. Later, it became private property. In 1871, it was handed over to tax authorities. During the Spanish Civil War, the Castillo was used as a defense. In 1949, it was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.

Today, Playa del Castillo is a top tourist spot. It attracts visitors from all over Europe. Caleta de Fuste has grown into a modern resort since the 1980s. It offers a relaxing environment for families and couples.

Getting to Playa del Castillo is easy. From the FV-2, a roundabout leads you to the beach. There is also a bus line that stops here.

The beach itself is man-made. The fine sand was brought in. The bay is protected. This means there are no high waves. It is an ideal spot for children. A beach bar offers snacks and drinks. Water sports are also available.

Caleta de Fuste also offers great shopping and nightlife. You will find bars, pubs, and restaurants. The Atlantico Shopping Centre is nearby. It features shops, a cinema, and a bowling alley. Every Saturday, there is a weekly market.

So, as you relax on Playa del Castillo, remember its history. From pirate attacks to a modern resort, this beach has seen it all. Enjoy the sun, the sand, and the stories of Playa del Castillo.
