Can you imagine Platjenwerbe as just a “flat Warft”? That’s the most common interpretation of its name. Platjenwerbe is a special place. It sits in the Gemeinde Ritterhude. The village has around 2,400 residents. It is located in the district of Osterholz.

Platjenwerbe borders Schwanewede to the west. To the south, it meets the St. Magnus and Lesum parts of Bremen’s Burglesum district. Ihlpohl lies to the east.

Platjenwerbe’s history is interesting. It officially became part of Ritterhude on March 1, 1974. This happened during Lower Saxony’s regional reforms.

Nature is close here. Southeast of Platjenwerbe is the Ruschdahlmoor. It is a small nature reserve in Lesum. The Friedehorstpark is another green space. It lies on Platjenwerbe’s southwestern edge. The park’s highest point is the highest natural elevation in Bremen. The Auetal with its woods and meadows lies to the west.

Platjenwerbe has its own public facilities. There’s a primary school. The volunteer fire brigade is here too. You can also find a kindergarten and a community center. All these are on Dorfstraße.

Local clubs are important in Platjenwerbe. The Heimatverein Platjenwerbe e.V. has many members. The Sportgemeinschaft Platjenwerbe e.V. 1910 is also popular. It offers many sports activities.

The A 27 motorway runs along Platjenwerbe’s eastern edge. Platjenwerbe also has a unique connection to Bremen. It uses Bremen’s phone code, 0421. But it is part of Ritterhude administratively. It belongs to the Bremen-Lesum parish.

In 1595, Platjenwerbe was called “Stubben und Platkenwerwe”. It sits in the “Bremer Schweiz”. This area is 34 meters above sea level. Platjenwerbe offers woods and fields for walks. It is a peaceful escape from daily life.

Many old farmhouses and trees mark Platjenwerbe. These remind us of the past. Platjenwerbe has grown into a quiet residential area. It is next to the Schönebecker Auetal. The village is proud of its unique character. Platjenwerbe is indeed something special. This special identity is consciously lived by many citizens.

The village of Stubben merged with Platjenwerbe in 1928. The name “Platjenwerbe” means “flat, elevated place”. Stubben got its name from tree stumps. These had to be cleared to build homes and farms.

In the past, Platjenwerbe belonged to the Schönebeck estate. Around 1620, they built a castle there. The estate owners gave land to “Meier” for farming. In 1677, Colonel Friedrich von der Borch bought the estate. He hired more “Meier”. These farmers had to work and pay dues. They got land for their homes, gardens, and fields. But the estate owner kept the land title.

Platjenwerbe also had common land called “Meenheit”. This included areas like Fredeholz and Platjenwerber Heide. In 1820, the residents asked to divide this land. The government approved the division in 1832.

The first school in Platjenwerbe was in a small storage building. It was founded before 1820. Before that, children had to go to school in Lesum. In 1839, a small schoolhouse was built. In 1910, a new school with two classrooms replaced it. Today, the Heimatverein Platjenwerbe e. V. uses this building as its office.

Many residents had side jobs to support their families. The small farms were not enough to live on. Many men worked at sea. Others were carpenters or worked at shipyards.

Today, old oaks line the streets and fields of Platjenwerbe. They mark the entrances to old farmsteads. Some of these farmsteads have been replaced by new buildings. But you can still find beautiful old thatched-roof houses. The history of these houses can be traced back.
