A quiet Parisian corner. That’s Placette Claude Bouvelle. It’s small unassuming yet steeped in history. Located in the 17th arrondissement this little square holds a poignant story. It’s named after Claude Bouvelle a young man whose life was tragically cut short.

Claude Bouvelle was born in 1925 in the 17th arrondissement. He was a student and a member of the Jeunes Chrétiens Combattants a group of young Christian fighters. He was arrested and executed by the Germans in August 1944 at the Cascade du Bois de Boulogne. He was just 19.

His death wasn’t in vain. He received the “Mort pour la France” medal posthumously. His name is inscribed on a memorial plaque in the Église Saint-Ferdinand des Ternes a church also in the 17th arrondissement. It is also on a stele at the Cascade du Bois de Boulogne the site of his execution.

The placette opened only recently. Its inauguration was in May 2024. The mayor of the 17th arrondissement Geoffroy Boulard and deputy Caroline Yadan attended the ceremony.
