This isn’t just a plaza; it’s a tribute to the late architect, Zaha Hadid, and her stunning creation, the Chanel Mobile Art Pavilion. Originally designed as a traveling exhibition space for Chanel, this pavilion graced cities like Hong Kong, Tokyo, and New York. Place Zaha Hadid in Paris became its final destination. This pavilion isn’t a static structure. It’s a testament to fluidity and innovation. Imagine a structure of smooth, arching elements, flowing seamlessly into one another. The exterior, crafted from fiber-reinforced plastic, shimmers and reflects the surrounding light. The roof, a combination of PVC and ETFE, allows natural light to filter through, illuminating the interior. At the heart of the pavilion lies a central courtyard. This open space provides a tranquil area for reflection, blurring the lines between the inside and outside world. The pavilion’s design emphasizes versatility. The main exhibition space, the central courtyard, and an expansive terrace can be combined to create a single, large event zone. The steel structure, weighing 74 tons and boasting over 1752 steel connections, was designed for rapid assembly. This allowed it to be erected in under a week, essential for a traveling pavilion. Even the lighting plays a crucial role in the pavilion’s ambiance. Artificial light washes the walls, emphasizing the arched structure and creating a captivating artificial landscape. The roof light dramatically floods the entrance with daylight, further blurring the boundaries between the interior and exterior. Now a permanent fixture at Place Zaha Hadid, the pavilion serves as a reminder of its journey and its creator’s vision.
