A Parisian square. Quiet. Peaceful. Yet it holds a powerful story. This is Place Dulcie September. Named after a remarkable woman. A South African anti-apartheid activist. Dulcie September dedicated her life to fighting injustice.

Dulcie wasn’t just a teacher. She was a fearless leader. She joined the African National Congress. She worked tirelessly to end apartheid. She became the ANC’s Chief Representative in France. Switzerland and Luxembourg. Her Paris office was right here. Near the intersection of Rue La Fayette Rue Philippe de Girard and Rue Chateau-Landon.

Imagine her days. Working tirelessly. Organizing protests. She investigated illegal arms trafficking between France and South Africa. A dangerous task. It put her in grave danger. A danger that sadly became her reality.

On March 29 1988 Dulcie was assassinated. Shot dead outside her office. A shocking act of violence. She was only 52 years old. Her death sent shockwaves through Paris. More than 20000 people mourned her loss. Her murder remains unsolved. Suspicion fell on South African intelligence services. But no one was ever brought to justice.

This square. This quiet place. It remembers her. It honors her courage. Her unwavering commitment to freedom. It reminds us of the cost of fighting for justice. A cost that Dulcie September paid with her life. It is a poignant reminder of a life cut short. A life dedicated to a greater cause. Take a moment. Reflect on Dulcie’s legacy. Her legacy of resistance. Her legacy of hope.
