Built in the heart of the 15th arrondissement, the Piscine Keller isn’t just any swimming pool. It’s a splash of history, a testament to Parisian ingenuity, and a place where the past and present do a synchronized swimming routine. The Piscine Keller first opened its doors in 1967, a bright new addition to the then-new Beaugrenelle Centre. Named after the engineer and French Resistance member Robert Keller, it was a symbol of progress and innovation. Imagine the excitement as Claude Mandonnaud, a renowned swimmer, inaugurated the pool with a record-breaking performance! But what truly sets the Piscine Keller apart is its retractable roof. Imagine this: the sun is shining, the birds are singing, and with a gentle whir, the roof slides open, transforming the pool into a vibrant open-air oasis. The pool was originally built for the National Union of Sporting Associations of Posts, Telegraph, and Telephone (ASPTT). It boasted a 50-meter pool for serious laps and a smaller 15-meter pool for those just dipping their toes into the world of swimming. In 2000, the city of Paris acquired this architectural gem. However, time had taken its toll. By 2005, the Piscine Keller needed more than just a quick chlorination. A significant renovation project began, breathing new life into the aging structure. The result? A beautifully modernized facility that reopened in 2008, ready to make a splash for years to come.
