Did you know Pinner New Cemetery was dedicated on May 13, 1933? It is more than just a burial ground. It is a testament to early 20th-century design.

Pinner New Cemetery sits north of Capel Gardens and Pinner Court. These buildings boast a colonial style with white and green roofs built in the 1930s. Boulevard Gardens flank the cemetery entrance. These public gardens feature low retaining walls and shrubs. Private housing provides a backdrop.

S W Richardson, the Borough Architect, designed Pinner New Cemetery. The entrance is set back from the road. Stone gate piers and wrought iron gates greet visitors. Lanterns adorn the gates, and a gothic lodge stands nearby. The axial drive leading to the chapel is lined with horse chestnut trees. Unusually, deciduous trees dominate the cemetery’s landscape.

As you wander through Pinner New Cemetery, note the diverse tree selection. Birch, cypress, sycamore, cherry, and hawthorn trees abound. A few oak trees predate the cemetery itself.

Among the monuments, one stands out. Look for the red granite armchair grave of Susan Dunford. It marks where she “left her chair vacant” in 1954. This unique memorial captures the imagination.

Pinner New Cemetery spans approximately 9.11 hectares. LB Harrow owns the site. The Environmental Services Cemetery Office manages it.
