In 1897 a young boy played on Downs Farm. He couldn’t imagine the future. Forty years later he returned. He was Percy Rayner the first headmaster of Pinner County School.

Pinner High School stands on that very farm. It’s a grand building a testament to the area’s history. The school opened in August 1937. It was built to accommodate 508 boys and girls. The cost was around 48619 pounds.

Its design reflected the Art Deco style popular at the time. The school hall and the staircase are prime examples. The school quickly outgrew its initial capacity. For thirty years it thrived in its rectangular form. Then came expansion. In 1968 a new gym and teaching block were added. Further alterations followed affecting the north south and west wings.

Heathfield School acquired the premises in 1982. They made significant improvements to the building and facilities. The result is the Pinner High School we see today.

Between 1937 and 1982 around 6200 students learned at Pinner County School. Pinner County Grammar School and Pinner Sixth Form College also existed on the site. Many notable individuals attended. These include Elton John and Simon Le Bon famous musicians. John Harris a Labour spin doctor also attended. Even a Hollywood actor Tony Jay was educated here. Many students found success in diverse fields. They excelled in music sports the arts and various professions. The school’s success is reflected in the accomplishments of its alumni. Many received OBEs and MBEs for their contributions.

Pinner High School today continues this tradition. It provides quality education in a building rich in history. It’s a place where students learn grow and create their own legacies. The school’s past is a testament to its enduring success. It’s a place of learning and a part of Pinner’s story.
