Was it always destined that the Philippine Chung Hua School would stand here? Perhaps. Let’s uncover the story of this Filipino-Chinese educational beacon. The Philippine Chung Hua School is located on Reposo Street in Santa Mesa Manila.

Originally, the Philippine Chung Hua School was a humble two-story building. It stood on G. Tuazon Street near M. Arenas in Sampaloc Manila. The school occupied only about 600 square feet. Classrooms for grades 1 to 5 were all on the second floor. Downstairs were the principal’s and teachers’ offices. The Manila Sampaloc Chinese-Filipino Chamber of Commerce also had its office there.

But with foresight, Mr. Agustin N. Tanco purchased land. He built the school we see today at 3217 Reposo Street. This was thanks to financial contributions from the school’s members and trustees. Civic-minded people in the Filipino-Chinese community also helped.

Today, the Philippine Chung Hua School has three buildings. They have two, three, and four stories. The school boasts many facilities. There is an Administration and Registrar Office. A Finance Department serves the school’s needs. Teachers can relax in their lounge. A clinic provides healthcare. Guidance counselors offer support. The PTA and alumni have their own room. Pre-nursery students enjoy a playroom. Students can grab a bite at the canteen. The school also features a computer laboratory, a science laboratory, and an audio visual room. A TLE room supports technical learning. The basketball court doubles for badminton and volleyball. All classrooms from kindergarten to senior high are air-conditioned.

Philippine Chung Hua School educates children from Pre-K to 12th grade. It maintains high academic and moral standards. The faculty and staff are committed. They provide a safe learning environment. The school welcomes learners of all faiths. This diversity enriches the community.

The Philippine Chung Hua School offers various scholarships. Students who achieve 1st to 3rd honors receive tuition discounts. Those who studied from 7th to 12th grade can study for free at STI Mandaluyong. This is offered by the Tanco Foundation Inc. Students must maintain their grades. Junior High completers may qualify for a voucher program.

Philippine Chung Hua School is unique. It is the only school in Santa Mesa Manila that offers English and Chinese subjects. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the school continued to provide educational services. The school aims to instill an appreciation for life. It encourages respect for national tradition and love for mankind. The school strives to develop each student’s potential. This includes mental, physical, and spiritual growth.

Looking ahead, the Philippine Chung Hua School envisions a multipurpose hall. It will be on the 4th floor of the main building. This hall will house a gymnasium and an auditorium. The school quadrangle will become a parking space. The canteen will be renovated into a school kitchen. Students can cook nutritious food and sell it.
