Was it always destined that the Philippine Chung Hua School would stand here? Perhaps. Let’s uncover the story of this Filipino-Chinese educational beacon. The Philippine Chung Hua School is located on Reposo Street in Santa Mesa Manila.
Originally, the Philippine Chung Hua School was a humble two-story building. It stood on G. Tuazon Street near M. Arenas in Sampaloc Manila. The school occupied only about 600 square feet. Classrooms for grades 1 to 5 were all on the second floor. Downstairs were the principal’s and teachers’ offices. The Manila Sampaloc Chinese-Filipino Chamber of Commerce also had its office there.
But with foresight, Mr. Agustin N. Tanco purchased land. He built the school we see today at 3217 Reposo Street. This was thanks to financial contributions from the school’s members and trustees. Civic-minded people in the Filipino-Chinese community also helped.
