Around 1690, Kyai Jambe Merik ruled the land. He built his puri, his palace, in Alang Badung, the area now known as Suci. The kingdom of Tegeh Kori had transitioned to the Jambe dynasty. Their kingdom was called Bandana Negara, or the Kingdom of Badung. Early in Kyai Jambe Merik’s reign, the Goak forces from Buleleng returned to Badung. They were led by Panji Sakti. Their mission was to propose marriage to the daughter of Kyai Notor Wandira, also known as Kyai Bandana. Refusal meant Badung would face Buleleng’s conquest. The king of Badung, of course, refused. A fierce battle ensued in Blusung. The fighting was brutal. Countless soldiers from both Badung and Buleleng perished. The bloodshed was so extensive, the battlefield resembled a gruesome pool of blood, a “pekubangan warak.” Neither side claimed victory. The devastating battle ended with an exchange of princesses. Badung offered the daughter of Lanang Kemoning. She married the King of Buleleng and founded the Pedawa lineage in Singaraja. Buleleng, in turn, offered the daughter of Ki Tamlang. She married the King of Badung and established the Tamlang lineage in Titih. Over time, “pekubangan,” meaning “pool,” transformed into Peguyangan. And so, Peguyangan, a name born from conflict, marks a place steeped in the history of the Badung kingdom. Peguyangan stands as a testament to a time of battles and alliances. It whispers tales of royal lineages and the ebb and flow of power. Peguyangan’s name, etched in blood and time, invites us to reflect on the past.
