Have you ever heard of the charming village called Pecqueuse? It’s tucked away in the southern suburbs of Paris, just a short distance from the larger town of Limours. It’s a quiet little place, but it has a rich history that dates back to the 12th century. The village was founded after two brothers, Pierre and Simon Castel, donated their land to the prior of Longpont-sur-Orge. This generous act laid the foundation for what would become Pecqueuse. The village grew slowly over the centuries, with the population increasing thanks to the thriving agriculture in the Hurepoix region. In the 19th century, a beet alcohol distillery was built, adding to the economic life of the village. This distillery operated for almost a century, eventually closing its doors in 1967. Pecqueuse is known for its beautiful church, built in the 18th century. In 1736, a new bell was dedicated in honor of the lord of the manor’s wife, named Magdeleine. Today, Pecqueuse maintains a charming rural character, offering a peaceful escape from the bustling city. It’s a place where nature and history intertwine, creating a unique charm that is sure to captivate any visitor.
