The Pazarbaşı Camii is located in Üsküdar’s Pazarbaşı neighborhood on Kabzımal Street. Hacı Mirza Efendi, also known as Pazarbaşı Ahmet Ağa, commissioned it in 1708. This makes it over 300 years old.
Originally, the Pazarbaşı Camii was a masonry structure. It had a wooden minaret, serving as a small mosque. In 1896, the structure underwent significant repairs. The wooden minaret was replaced with a brick one.
Disaster struck in the winter of 1942. The wooden roof of the Pazarbaşı Camii collapsed. What remained were thick stone walls and the brick minaret.
Here is where our story gets more interesting. Until 1980, its remains stood there. In 1980, the Pazarbaşı Camii was rebuilt. But it was rebuilt in a different location than its original site.
The rebuilt Pazarbaşı Camii features a single minaret. It also has one balcony. While not the original structure, it carries the history and name of its predecessor.
