Deep within Hungary, nestled near the town of Sóskút, lies a hidden message. This message, visible from the M7 motorway, is PAX-liget. PAX-liget isn’t your typical forest. Its trees, carefully planted and shaped, spell out the Latin word for “peace”: PAX. Imagine, driving along the bustling motorway and suddenly seeing this giant word emerge from the landscape. PAX-liget was planted in the 1960s as part of a nationwide reforestation project. Young KISZ members brought this idea to life, a testament to their hope for a more peaceful future. The idea was sparked by Győző Mészöly, a forestry engineer. The letters of PAX-liget stand approximately 120 meters tall. This makes them a noticeable landmark, a silent reminder of peace in a world that often feels anything but. So, the next time you find yourself traveling along the M7 motorway near Sóskút, keep your eyes peeled for this unique landmark. PAX-liget, a hidden gem, offers a moment of reflection, a reminder of the enduring power of peace, brought to life by the dedication of young people decades ago.
