Echoes of rock legends reverberate here at the Pavillon des Soupapes. This wasn’t always a concert hall. Once a slaughterhouse the Pavillon des Soupapes held a different kind of energy. The air hung thick with the scent of blood and meat. Now a different kind of life fills the space.

The Pavillon des Soupapes opened in 1975. It quickly became Paris’s largest indoor music arena. Holding approximately 10000 spectators it hosted some of the biggest names in rock and pop music. Imagine the roar of the crowd as Genesis took the stage. Or the electrifying energy of The Rolling Stones.

Many famous bands played here. The Who AC/DC Pink Floyd Queen Bob Marley and countless others graced the Pavillon’s stage. Their music filled this very space. The echoes of their concerts linger.

The Pavillon des Soupapes also had a nickname. Les Abattoirs The Slaughterhouse. Its past as a meatpacking plant is a surprising part of its story. This industrial building’s transformation is quite remarkable. The change from blood to music is fascinating.

Even Santana’s Moonflower album includes tracks from a 1976 show. And that’s not all. Bob Marley’s Babylon By Bus was primarily recorded here in 1978. Cerrone’s Cerrone In Concert is another example. Even Queen’s Live Killers features a few tracks from concerts in 1979. The Pavillon des Soupapes holds a significant place in music history.

Sadly the Pavillon des Soupapes closed in 1980. It was demolished sometime later. Yet its legacy lives on. The music played here lives on in recordings.
