Established in 1968 Patterson River Secondary College stands proudly in Seaford Victoria. It wasn’t always called that. Initially it was Seaford Carrum High School. In 1992 it merged with Bonbeach High School keeping its present location. Today Patterson River Secondary College boasts a diverse student body of approximately 1120 students. Over 120 staff members contribute to the vibrant learning environment. Principal Daniel Dew leads a team of three vice-principals. They work hard to maintain the high standards of this esteemed institution.

The school’s history is rich with both triumphs and challenges. A notable event was a 2005 incident involving a teacher and a student. The teacher suffered significant stress leading to a court case and compensation. The school has not only faced adversity but has also experienced periods of significant growth and development. In 2020 a significant $7.2 million upgrade was announced. The upgrade included new science and economics rooms. Unfortunately a storm in 2021 brought down a large tree onto the year 7 courtyard. Despite this setback the school persevered.

Patterson River Secondary College is more than just classrooms and hallways. It houses an impressive array of facilities. There’s a well-stocked library open from 815 am to 400 pm. Students have access to books DVDs and even board games. A modern stadium opened in 2011-12 hosts indoor basketball courts. Local clubs also use the stadium. The year 12 common room underwent a major refurbishment in 2017. It’s now a hub for senior students a place to study and socialize.

Beyond academics Patterson River thrives with extracurricular activities. The music program is exceptionally strong. Students participate in bands orchestras and choirs. An annual Soiree showcases their talents. Numerous student leadership opportunities exist. These include roles like house captains and college captains. There’s even an Excel program for high-achieving students. The college fosters a supportive environment providing counselling and career guidance. International exchange programs exist with schools in Germany China and Japan. Annual events include a presentation ball and senior school ball held at prestigious venues. Year 7 students experience three-day camps on Phillip Island. Year 9 students embark on orientation camps in the Grampians. Outdoor education classes provide further opportunities for adventure and growth. The year 9 Community Leadership program is unique. Students partner with the local fire brigade receiving firefighting training and First Aid certification.
