The Patrick Fillon Plaque commemorates Lieutenant Patrick Fillon, a Lyon police officer killed on February 19, 1997. He was pursuing a dangerous armed robber, Jean-Pascal Aldrovandi. Aldrovandi had committed two bank robberies earlier that day and had stolen several cars to evade capture. The chase led here, to Quai Fulchiron. Aldrovandi crashed and then opened fire on the pursuing officers. Patrick Fillon was fatally shot. He was only 36 years old. His colleague, Didier Cottin, was also wounded but survived. The plaque serves as a stark reminder of the risks police officers face daily. It’s a place to reflect on Fillon’s bravery and the ultimate sacrifice he made protecting the city of Lyon. The perpetrator was eventually apprehended and sentenced to life imprisonment. Later, he was found dead in his prison cell.
