Ever wondered about the Pathway to Adventure Council? Right here in Chicago it’s a hub of youthful energy. This isn’t just any organization. It’s the culmination of four councils merging in 2015. The Chicago Area Council Des Plaines Valley Council Northwest Suburban Council and Calumet Council united to create something bigger. More sustainable. More efficient.

The Pathway to Adventure Council isn’t just about badges and merit. It’s about shaping young lives. Providing opportunities for personal growth. This local council boasts over 21000 youth members. They are supported by around 6000 adult volunteers. Think about that number for a moment. It’s a testament to the power of community. To shared values. To the enduring legacy of Scouting.

The Pathway to Adventure Council oversees two impressive camps. Camp Frank S Betz in Michigan has been running since 1922. Owasippe Scout Reservation another Michigan gem holds the title of oldest continuously operated Scout camp in the entire United States. That’s history in the making. That’s a legacy worth preserving.

The council has a rich past. It’s a past marked by both triumphs and closures. Sadly some camps had to close their doors. Camp Mach-Kin-O-Siew and Camp Shin-Go-Beek closed shortly after the merger. Camp Lakota met a similar fate in 2021. Camp Napowan in Wisconsin also closed its gates in 2021. The decision to close these camps wasn’t easy. It was a necessary step to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of the organization.

But this is not a story of loss. It’s a story of resilience and adaptation. The Pathway to Adventure Council serves the greater Chicago area. It even extends into Northwest Indiana. Think of the impact they have. The countless lives they’ve touched. The future leaders they’re nurturing.

The council maintains four service centers. They are located in Arlington Heights Chicago La Grange Illinois and Munster Indiana. These centers are the nerve centers of the operation. They’re where the planning takes place where the logistics are handled where the magic truly happens.

Pathway to Adventure is not just a name. It’s a promise. A promise of adventure. A promise of growth. A promise of a brighter future for thousands of young people. So when you leave today remember this place. Remember the impact it has. Remember its legacy. Remember the pathway to adventure it creates.
