Picture this. A humble Sunday school class in a rented bungalow. That’s how Pasir Panjang Christ Church began in 1935. A school principal’s vision sparked it all. He started this small class at 356 Pasir Panjang Road.

Pasir Panjang Christ Church isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to faith. It’s a story of resilience. It’s a legacy built on prayer and community. The church faced challenges. They moved several times during the Japanese occupation. Pastor Phoa Hock Seng eventually bought the bungalow in the late 1950s. He used donations from friends and relatives. He named the church Pasir Panjang Christ Church. He believed the church belonged to Christ not to him.

Early services included English and Hokkien. There were Bible studies and prayer meetings. A ministry at Perak House a home for boys started the Youth Fellowship. The church’s outreach spread the Gospel to nearby kampongs. This planted the seeds of faith in the community.

In 1973 Pasir Panjang Christ Church acquired a new property. It was at 302 Pasir Panjang Road their current location. Pastor Phoa laid the foundation stone. The new church building opened in 1974. A Multi-purpose Hall was added in 1991. A renovated annex became the Fellowship Centre in 1997. The church continues to grow.

The church has known both joy and sorrow. Pastor Phoa Hock Seng served faithfully for 43 years. He passed away in 1978. Other pastors followed his leadership. The church took a strong stance on biblical separation from other movements. They also experienced the loss of Pastor Elbert Lim in 2009.

Despite challenges Pasir Panjang Christ Church has flourished. They planted Grace Bible Church in Punggol in 2000. They also started a ministry for senior citizens. They’ve sent missionaries to Asia following Pastor Phoa’s example. Pastor Charles was the first missionary to the Philippines.

Pasir Panjang Christ Church is more than a place of worship. It’s a vibrant community. It’s a beacon of hope. It continues to evangelize edify and exalt the Lord. It’s a living testament to the power of faith. It’s a story still being written. A story of God’s grace and faithfulness. A story you can be a part of.
