Pasig Bible Christian Church

Stepping inside the sanctuary of the Pasig Bible Christian Church, one can almost hear the echoes of its humble beginnings. In 1958, long before this building graced Bagong Ilog, Pasig City, the church existed as “Church In Thy House”. Services moved between the homes of members, starting with nine faithful souls gathered at the Valdez Residence. Reverend Magayos Javier led that first service on June 2nd, laying the foundation for what would become the Pasig Bible Christian Church. The visionaries, Reverend Javier, Eulogio Eusebio, and Serafin Salonga, nurtured this fledgling community. They shared their faith with the residents of Barrio Kapitolyo, welcoming new members like the Valdez and Palaypay families. Even then, the spirit of community and welcome was strong. They hosted visiting missionaries like Reverend Raymond Frame, Reverend Ensign Leinninger and his wife Gladys, Reverend Basil Costerissan, and Reverend Alban Douglas. These early gatherings, fueled by faith, were the heart of Pasig Bible Christian Church. The church officially formed on September 7, 1958, at the de Vera residence. A church council was established, Reverend Javier became the first official minister, and the name Capitol Community Church was chosen. The church was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission, thanks to the efforts of Eusebio and Salonga. It also became a recognized member of the Greater Manila Annual Conference of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines. For years, the de Vera and Palaypay homes served as sanctuaries. By 1966, the dream of a dedicated building became a reality. Dr. Josias Guinto’s generous donation of P1,500 launched the building fund campaign. Teams led by Benjamin Salonga, Serafin Salonga, Anatalio Viray, and Atty. Eliseo Zari worked tirelessly to realize this vision. Under the leadership of Reverend Angel Taglucop, the fundraising efforts bore fruit. A Thanksgiving service and dinner with Dr. Guinto as speaker raised nearly P5,000 in cash and pledges. Architect Federico Gesilva contributed his expertise, designing the church building without charge. The Pasig Bible Christian Church, then known as Capitol Community Church, has continued to grow and evolve, a testament to the faith and dedication of its founders and members.
