“A haven for damaged art” a visitor whispered. Welcome to the Paseo de las Esculturas. Right here in Buenos Aires’s Parque Tres de Febrero you stand before a unique display. The Paseo de las Esculturas isn’t just a park. It’s a testament to restoration. It showcases sculptures and works of art once damaged by vandalism. Or worn by time. The Paseo de las Esculturas is a testament to the city’s commitment to preserving its artistic heritage.

Originally established in 2016 the Paseo de las Esculturas provides a glimpse into the meticulous process of restoration. Many pieces are too large to move. They’re repaired on site. Smaller pieces like busts are taken to workshops. These workshops are housed in buildings with a rich history. They were originally used to house servants of Juan Manuel de Rosas’s estate. Rosas was governor of Buenos Aires from 1835 to 1854.

The Paseo de las Esculturas is more than just a place to view damaged sculptures. It’s a window into the life of the city’s art. Imagine the stories held within each piece. The artist’s vision. The damage inflicted. The painstaking effort of repair. Some pieces have suffered irreparable damage. They are replaced by replicas. The originals are preserved.

The Paseo de las Esculturas is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 1 pm. It’s a place of quiet contemplation. A place to reflect on both beauty and resilience. It’s situated near the workshops of the Coordinacion de Monumentos y Obras de Arte (MOA). The MOA is responsible for restoring and preserving Buenos Aires’s monuments and artworks. The city has approximately 2200 statues and monuments. Many suffer from vandalism and wear.

You’ll find sculptures made of bronze marble granite and other materials. Some sculptures were created by internationally renowned artists. For example there’s a bust of Manuel Belgrano by Lucio Fontana. The Paseo de las Esculturas allows you to appreciate the craftsmanship and creativity. It’s a reminder of the city’s rich artistic history. This carefully curated collection of sculptures shows the continuous cycle of creation damage and restoration. The Paseo de las Esculturas is a must-see for art lovers and history buffs alike. A unique tribute to the enduring spirit of Buenos Aires’s artistic heritage.
