Glimpse back to a time of gauchos. Imagine vast open lands meeting untamed horizons in Partido de Navarro.

The Partido de Navarro is a place steeped in history. It is a land of resilient people. Established on January 1 1798 as San Lorenzo de Navarro, it has evolved over centuries.

In 1755 the jurisdiction of the Council of Luján was created. Governor Andonaegui assigned the territory between the rivers. These rivers were Las Conchas and Areco. The territory stretched from the Paraná to the frontier. It bordered with the original peoples.

The viceroy Vertiz ordered towns to be formed near the forts. Captain Juan José de Sardón told the Viceroy his approval. He approved another town in Fortín Navarro. It would house immigrants from Spain and Partido de Areco.

The area of Partido de Navarro spans 1630 square kilometers. About 19899 people call it home. Navarro is about 100 km from Buenos Aires.

Navarro’s story is etched in blood and bravery. December 9 1828 saw the Battle of Navarro. It was a pivotal clash between General Lavalle and General Dorrego. Dorrego was executed afterward.

The town of Navarro offers several attractions. San Lorenzo Square is in the central area. In front is the San Lorenzo Mártir Church. The Municipal Historical Museum is also nearby. The Railway Museum is in the old train station. It showcases exhibits about the railway. A replica of the San Lorenzo fort stands as a historical landmark. It recalls the defense against aboriginal raids.

Navarro sits on the shores of Laguna de Navarro. The lake has a large municipal camping site. It offers amenities such as a grocery store and toilets.

Navarro has a rich political history. Alberto Yaregui was the mayor in 1983. Alfredo Castellari followed him. Santiago Aníbal Maggiotti took office in 1991. Jorge Ravotti assumed the role in 1994. Marta Teglia became mayor in 1995. Alfredo Castellari returned in 1999. Santiago Maggiotti then served. Facundo Diz has been in office since November 11 2020.

The fertile land has been perfect for growing crops. Today Navarro is accessible by bus and car. Bus line 136 comes from Buenos Aires. By car, the Acceso Oeste highway is one option.

As you stand here remember the battles fought. Remember the dreams forged in this land. The Partido de Navarro is more than just a place on a map. It is a testament to the enduring spirit of Argentina.
