In 2002, Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, the future Pope Francis, orchestrated the move from its original location on Serrano 742 to the chapel of Colegio San José on Gurruchaga 1012. The parish now occupies this charming building, just three and a half blocks from its former home. The old oratory, a silent witness to decades of neighborhood faith, has been transformed into a museum. Here at the Parroquia Santa Clara de Asís, remnants of the past intertwine with the present. The original altar and tabernacle remain, offering a glimpse into the parish’s history. The stained-glass windows, donated by local families, bathe the sanctuary in a warm, inviting light. Some windows are dedicated to loved ones, their stories woven into the very fabric of the church. Parroquia Santa Clara de Asís is more than just a building. It’s a living testament to the enduring power of faith and community. In 2004, the Archdiocese acquired a nearby property on Castillo 654 to serve as the parish house. Just a short walk from the church, it provides a central hub for the parish community. In 2016, the church underwent significant renovations. The images of Saint Clare and the fresco on the dome were restored to their former glory. The exterior walls were waterproofed, protecting the building for generations to come. A relic of Saint Teresa of Calcutta was placed alongside her image, a tribute to her inspiring life and work. The Parroquia Santa Clara de Asís continues to serve the spiritual needs of the Villa Crespo neighborhood. Mass is celebrated throughout the week.
