The cornerstone blessed in 1939. That’s where our story of Parroquia San Luis Gonzaga begins. Right here before you stands a testament to faith perseverance and community. Parroquia San Luis Gonzaga wasn’t built overnight. Its foundation lies in a 1926 mission in Villa Devoto. Sixteen tents served as a makeshift chapel. Father José Llusá SJ led the mission. Hundreds of children attended daily catechism classes. The mission’s success fueled a desire for a permanent church. Six years later a provisional chapel opened. The first baptism was recorded in 1932. The location Baigorria 4260 remains the same. The young Marian Congregations played a crucial role. They spearheaded efforts to raise funds and build the church. The church’s construction wasn’t without its obstacles. But the community’s dedication paid off. Architects Aurelio Vargas and Julio César Aranda designed Parroquia San Luis Gonzaga. The exterior is a blend of exposed brick and white plaster. A tall bell tower stands prominently. The main entrance is a striking blue. The church’s inauguration took place on April 6 1940. Despite intermittent rain crowds attended the ceremony. Cardinal Copello officiated. He praised the Marian Congregations for their tireless work. The church’s interior features stained glass windows. The altar originally held images of San Luis Gonzaga the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Conception. Over time the placement of these images changed. The original baptismal font has been moved. The presbytery floor has been replaced. A sacristy was added in the left nave. The altar’s position was adjusted. The parish house was also expanded. Today Parroquia San Luis Gonzaga stands as a vibrant center of faith. It continues to serve its community. The church’s history is a story of community resilience.
