The Augustinians of the Assumption came to Mexico. They wanted to build a sanctuary. They chose the name Emperatriz de America. This name would guide the temple’s construction.
Construction of the Parroquia de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe Emperatriz de America began in 1948. Civil engineer Juan Alvarez Domenzain led the design. He worked with architects Jorge Bravo and Jose Bordes Vertiz. The surrounding wall was added later. It helped with the area’s traffic problem.
